How the Process Works

1. Send Us Your Documents

The process begins when you share your basic details and documents with us. Our office reviews the documents internally to understand your case, the applicable law, and the exact papers required for registration.

This helps us identify whether your case falls under the Hindu Marriage Act or the Special Marriage Act, and whether any additional clarification or supporting document is required.

2. Internal Scrutiny by Our Office

After receiving your documents, we scrutinise them before moving ahead with the application. This step is important because even minor issues in names, addresses, dates, photographs, IDs, marital status, witnesses or supporting documents may cause delay at the Registrar office. Our aim is to prepare your file properly before it is placed before the concerned authority.

3. Preparation of Affidavits, Declarations & Other Documents

Once the documents are checked, we prepare the required application, affidavits, declarations and other case-specific papers. These documents are then shared with you for signatures and attestation wherever required.

4. Appointment with the Marriage Registrar

After the papers are ready, we coordinate for an appointment with the concerned Marriage Registrar / SDM / Marriage Officer. The appointment is booked as per your convenient date, subject to availability of dates with the concerned office.

During this process, you may receive OTPs from the government portal / Registrar office for verification. These OTPs are required to complete the appointment booking process.

5. Appointment Slip and Final Visit Guidance

Once the appointment is confirmed, we provide you with the appointment document. We also guide you regarding the original documents, witnesses, photographs, payment mode and other requirements for the date of visit.

6. Receipt of Marriage Registration Certificate via Email

Once the final visit is concluded to the satisfaction of the Marriage Registrar, you will receive the marriage registration certificate on your email.

Registration under the Hindu Marriage Act

For Marriages Already Solemnised as per Hindu Rites, if your marriage has already been solemnised as per Hindu rites, or as per Sikh, Jain or Buddhist customs, the marriage may generally be registered under the Hindu Marriage Act, subject to eligibility and verification by the concerned Registrar.

Visit to the Registrar Office

On the appointed date, both parties and witnesses are required to visit the concerned Registrar office with original documents. The concerned authority scrutinises the documents, verifies the parties and witnesses, and processes the application as per law.

Government Fee

A nominal government fee is payable for processing. The exact amount may differ from case to case. You will be informed in advance about the likely government fee applicable in your matter. The fee is usually payable through debit card, credit card or other available payment mode.

Issuance of Marriage Certificate

After successful scrutiny and acceptance of documents, the marriage is registered. The marriage certificate is generally issued and sent by email within approximately 15 days, subject to processing by the concerned office.

Registration / Marriage under the Special Marriage Act

Notice-Based Procedure

The Special Marriage Act follows a notice-based procedure. This means that the process is not completed in a single visit. After your documents are scrutinised and papers are prepared, we assist in obtaining the first appointment before the concerned Marriage Officer / Registrar, subject to availability.

First Visit

On the first visit, the parties usually appear for submission and verification of documents and for issuance of notice under the Special Marriage Act. The required government fee is also payable as per the applicable process.

Waiting Period

After the first visit, the concerned office gives a second date after completion of the statutory notice period. This is generally after around 30 days. However, depending on the facts, office schedule and appointment availability, the second date may fall within approximately 30 to 60 days.

Second Visit and Registration

On the second date, the parties and witnesses are required to appear before the concerned Marriage Officer / Registrar. After verification, completion of formalities and payment of applicable government fee, the marriage is solemnised / registered under the Special Marriage Act.

Issuance of Marriage Certificate

The marriage certificate is generally issued and sent by email within approximately 15 days after completion of the final registration formalities, subject to processing by the concerned office.

Marriage registration involves government offices, official verification and portal-based processes. The timelines mentioned above are general estimates only. Actual time may vary depending upon appointment availability, document scrutiny, government portal functioning, objections if any, workload of the concerned office and other administrative factors.

Final registration, acceptance of documents, appointment dates, witnesses, government fee and issuance of certificate remain subject to the satisfaction and verification of the concerned Marriage Registrar / SDM / Marriage Officer.
